A Tribute to Aenema's Reign

Fellow Knights,
Over a year ago, I handed over the reins of leadership to Aenema. During his reign as King of the Knights of Narsil, Aenema has brought the guild to new heights. He has forged useful partnerships with the Paladins of the Phoenix, and with Shadows of MOD. It was also during his time that The Burning Crusades was introduced and which brought many new aspects and experiences to all of us in the World of Warcraft. His leadership during this difficult time has brought the guild much progression.

Aenema's reign has been one of much joy and laughter among members. I do hope the joy of companionship and camaraderie that has so characterise our small little guild will continue to infuse our play in this game hereon.

1. Omen Threat Meter
I recommend this addon over KTM for one primary reason and I've tested both - it does not hog CPU resources as much as KTM. Get it from http://files.wowace.com

2. BigWigs / LittleWigs
I prefer this over DBM (Deadly Boss Mods). This addon gives you warnings on imminent boss spellcasts / events and I found it a very useful addon. Get it from curse.com

1. The Black Morass aka Dark Portal. This is a challenging instance which I would like the guild to attempt. Let's put our strengths to it.

2. Arena. Aenema has made a team. We should try to do this in 2v2 or more if possible. Please speak to him if you're interested.

3. To run 63-65 instances when Vester/Talex can participate.

4. Crafting Wish List. I would like each main to submit a needed crafted item i.e. tailored, blacksmithed, jewelcrafted, leatherworked. We will then work out how we can go about getting the item crafted for you.

Important Quest

Attention all Lvl 68-70s,

I've done a bit of research and my conclusion is that we need to get all of you to get started on this long but much needed quest line. This is because the end reward is the Tempest key.

The quest line starts in Shadowmoon Valley (Wildhammer Stronghold) with npc Earthmender Sophorus . He gives you the quest [The Hand of Gul'dan] and you are required to find Earthmender Torlok at the Altar of Damnation. You need to complete the quest line he gives before he gives you the quest to find [Oronok Torn-heart]. Lvls 68-69 should complete until this stage.

Oronok Torn-heart will give you the start of the follow-on quest line when you are Lvl 70. So upon reaching lvl 70, go start this quest line which begins with the quest [I Was A Lot Of Things...].

The penultimate quest will be difficult (looks like as 25-man raid) but I guess we all need to try...

As of yesterday I've done the Shadowmoon tubers quest which is easily soloable.

From start of Knights of Narsil an adventure every single step. Behind the wheel our fearless leader King Grayhat. I plan on following directly as Grayhat would. We will be the same great group he built more than a year ago. It seems like it was just yesterday (but more like 5 years ago) that I joined this small guild named Ehrenguard and their new King, Grayhat! I was a total noob but he has shaped and molded the gamer that I am today every step of the way. Today we are a differant name, a differant game but still the save values that started from day one. I remmeber looking up to Grayhat,a fresh new king, unbenounced to me that one day I would follow in his steps. Passing the Sceptre

Grayhat has passed on the reins of the guild to Aenema (aka Olbeastie) on Feb 13th 2007.

Having formed and led this guild for nearly a year, I must say that it has been a pleasant experience for me and I have the unique satisfaction of having kept our friendship together.

I have thought long and hard on how to move forward from here and I have concluded that the best way is to let someone else with the talent and energy to bring the guild to greater heights. My choice is Beastie. He has been a strong and steadfast friend and he shares many of my ideas and opinions. I have full confidence in him.

An alliance with Shadows of MOD

Knights of Narsil and Shadows of MOD have now forged an alliance. This means that both our guilds will be able to pool resources to attempt the higher instances.

Towards this end, I urge all members of the guild to /join friendsofnarsil which is an extra chat channel whereby members of allied guilds can send messages to each other.

Taking breaks

Here's something I found which I hope will be useful to you.

Eating, sleeping, work, friends, and all of the other needs demand their own time, but there are also breaks in-game that can be useful to you. For one, it is nice to have a few characters to play unless you are madly driven to reach the level cap in the least possible time. Having a few characters gives the player the breathing room to play according to a given mood instead of being forced into the same style each evening. It is nice to have a tank for slugging things out, a caster for ranged spellwork, a crafting and farming character for making money and finding speacial gear, and whatever else calls to you.

By switching around the characters you play, the game stays more vibrant and has fewer demands on you. Instead, you get to go with your mood each time you play. The only serious downside of having multiple characters is that friends on the same server may out-level you. That is one of the many perks of having a guild; there is often a cluster of people in every region, so you won't be left out by levelling at a different pace than the "average" player.

Roadmap for the Knights of Narsil

This Roadmap was presented by Grayhat at the guild meeting on August 18th 2006.

1. Team-building
The aim is to build up main characters so as to be able to field a balanced winning team for all the Tier 0 dungeons. My assessment is that we will require the following classes:

Tank: Warrior
Healers: 1 x Priest; 1 x Resto Druid
DPS: 1 x Rogue; 1 x Hunter; 1 x Warlock; 1 x Mage
Utility: 1 x Paladin

Towards this goal, I would like you to put foreward the names of characters assigned to what I call Team Narsil so that your services can be called upon in the service of the alliance.

Doing so will also provide focus for the guild to assist in building up the characters i.e. gathering mats etc, items for the characters for crafting, quests so that characters are sufficiently equipped to handle the dangers of these dungeons.

2. Team Narsil Plus
Here we need to get players equipped with the where-withall to participate in the higher end dungeons i.e. 20-man, and eventually 40-man ones.
This require 2 development tracks:
a. Ventrilo equipping
b. Fire-resist gear

For Ventrilo - we need to get players up and running with this... microphones and headphones and the setup for raids.
FR gear - I will put up suggested equipment for each class on the website so that you can start looking out for these items.

3. The Middle Path
This is the mid-point which I want to add on the roadmap. We must not forget to have balance - and what I mean by this is that we msut not forget to have fun. We must not forget the others in the guild - to help them, to socialise with them, to be friends and family at the expense of our other defined goals. Towards this end, I ask that some runs be made for the up and coming members so that they feel part of the team. They should not feel left-out.

4. Hitchhiker
This is where we hitch onto the allianced guilds, in particlaur Order of the Red Rose. We want to retain our identity, and yet be able to particpate in planned endgame raids. This is the window and the opportunity. Here our goal is to be able to field a 5-man or 10-man team to contribute.

5. The Next Level
This is where we gear up and prepare for the trials of the impending Burning Crusades.

1. Group Calendar:

This addon allows you to view the guild's planned/scheduled activities. You can indicate your attendance for each of these events. This is recommended for all members of the guild.

2. CT-RaidAssist:

CT_RaidAssist is an overall Raid Assistant. It allows you to easily monitor health and mana/energy/rage of not only your group, but anyone/everyone in your raid. It also provides you with several additional ways to increase your raids performance. Up to 5 raid members can be set to Main Tanks. These constantly report info about their target, keeping everybody updated on their performance, and helps coordinate actions.

3. Ventrilo

Ventrilo is a Voice over IP (VoIP) group communications software widely used in online games. You need headphones/speakers and a microphone (if you wish to talk).
Download and use version 2.3
Our alliance guild (Order of the Red Rose) is hosting the server.

Port: 18357
Password: will be told to you ingame
Set a Hotkey to talk (I use Right CTRL key, for example)

4. Voice Overlay
I have found and tested this program which allows you to see who is talking on Ventrilo while in-game.

Extract files to a folder you can find. Then I recommend you create a desktop shortcut to the exe of the folder.

Guild Roster and Character Profiler

I am now using rpg-outfitter to manage the guild roster. The link to the roster is at right panel: Knights of Narsil Guild Roster. I strongly recommend all members to use this program.

Here are the instructions:

1. Goto http://www.rpgoutfitter.com/
Register for an account - name and password is case-sensitive
You will receive an acknowledgement by email and you then need to click on the link provided in the email to activate your account.

2. At above website above, goto Downloads and download the program:
rpgo-CharacterProfiler_1.5.3a

3. Also download this:
UniUploader_v2.4.1
(this litle program automates your character profile uploads)

4. Right-click on the downloaded file: rpgo-CharacterProfiler_1.5.3a
to extract it. Look at extracted file... in the folder AddOns... copy both files - CharacterProfiler and CharacterProfiler.nopatch

Navigate to your WoW folder... i.e. C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns
and paste the 2 files in that directory.

5. Start WoW...
Open your Character Profile... there should be a red "SAVE" button somewhere on the top left
click on SAVE... you will see some system messages... need to click on professions buttons... open skillbook ... bank etc.. click SAVE again

Repeat above for each character

6. Exit WoW

7. To upload your character profiles:

Method 1: Use UniUploader
Right click on the downloaded program :
UniUploader_v2.4.1_Installer

to install it. Start it up....
under Settings... CONFIG
enter url: http://www.rpgoutfitter.com
check Uplaod Access... enter your account name (at rpgoutfitter) and password
then click UPLOAD button

That's it.

8. Method 2: login to www.rpgoutfitter.com with your name and password
goto Characters
Upload
browse to your wow folder
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\[account name folder]\Saved Variables\Character Profiler.lua

Click upload

9. Your characters and equipment will now be available for viewing from the guild roster.

10. If you have any problems or questions about this... ask me ingame :)

I've found a website that allows you to create a character profile which can then be displayed on the guild's website and/or accessed anytime. It's cool.

Goto: http://ctprofiles.net , sign up for an account, login and create your characters. I have created the guild name on Hellscream. Password is kon2006.

Once you have created your characters, send or post your character's link, and I will update them on this website. See the sidebar "Character Roster" for an example.

Charter of the Knights of Narsil

To be accepted into the Knights of Narsil, a member shall agree to abide by this Charter.

We are a close-knit guild on the World of Warcraft *Hellscream* server and seek to play the game as honourable people, who give everyone their due respect while in-game and off. We want to be a cyber-community that give companionship, help and support to each other in this game.

We will not tolerate players who lie, cheat, or give others undue grief.

We are an Alliance guild, seeking to follow the way of truth and justice, working to rid all Azeroth of the evil that seeks to destroy our land.

As a member of the Knights of Narsil, you are expected to abide by the following Code of Conduct:

1. Always treat your fellow Knights of Narsil members with honour and respect. We are a guild that is focused on being helpful and kind to each other, with the aim of making each other's gaming experience a fun one.

2. Try to be self-sufficient. Although we will always try to be helpful to one another, being a member who is constantly badgering others for items, or for help to be power-levelled, is very annoying. Do be mindful that your guildmates are also here to have fun.

3. If you have valuable game items that you do not require, do see if any guild member needs the item.

4. Do not swear or use vulgarity. Try not to. Our members may come from many countries, from many walks of life, and are of varied ages, including young kids. Be mindful that your words do not hurt people's feelings.

5. During raids and party instances, always follow the leader's instructions with regards to your role or loot rules. Doing so is being a good team player. Good teamwork is crucial to success.

6. Try to be exemplary in your conduct. By being a good example to others. Do not sully our guild's good name.

7. Above all, have fun. Do remember that this is a game, and grieving other players will not contribute to your good reputation. On the other hand, also do remember that our guild members are real people, who have put in much time and effort and resources into the game. Find a balance. Be considerate.
